The COGs win a Sussex County FA Community Award – 5th July 2017

To the surprise of everyone, it was fantastic to be announced as Winners of the Sussex County FA Community Award for the “Best Inclusive Project”, on 5th July 2017.   Congratulations to all the other winners and we look forward to meeting them on the 21st September for the Awards’ Evening at the Amex Stadium!

Details were published on the Sussex County FA website on 5th July, as per below:

“Eight local grassroots champions from across Sussex have been named as this year’s winners of the Sussex County FA Community Awards, presented by McDonald’s.

Throughout February people have been nominating their grassroots heroes within the county, from individual volunteers to clubs with a fantastic response.

Following the seven-week nomination period a judging panel, made up of local County FA and McDonald’s representatives, selected this year’s winners for their invaluable commitment to the grassroots game.

This year’s Sussex County FA Community Awards winners are:
• People’s Choice Award (Outstanding Contribution to Community Football)
Les Kempster – Mid Sussex Youth and Minor Football League and Sussex County FA
• Best Inclusive Project
Crawley Old Girls (COGs)
• The FA Charter Standard Community Club Award
Steyning Town Community
• FA Charter Standard Development Club Award
Uckfield Grasshoppers
• FA Charter Standard Club Award
Ashurst Wood Junior
• FA Charter Standard Football League Award
Horsham and District Youth Football League
• Coach of the Year
Kevin Smith – Hastings Athletic
• Young Volunteer of the Year
Luke Kavanagh-Deeprose – 1066 Specials

In addition to the above the Sussex County FA have awarded the following awards:

• Sussex County FA Football Workforce Volunteer Award
Pam Chandler – Sussex Disability Football League and Female Coach Mentor
Ben Vas Nes – Sussex to Africa
George Dowell – Worthing

• Sussex County FA Football Workforce Young Volunteer Award
Beth Garner – Mind (Mental Health Charity) and Sussex County FA Youth Council
Sam Boyes – Newhaven Girls
Alex Bradley – National RA-FA Youth Council Member

All of the above award winners will be recognised at the Sussex County FA Awards Evening, alongside a host of other awards, taking place at the American Express Community Stadium on Thursday 21st September 2017.

Keveena Mosen, Sussex County FA Football Development Officer said: “We are fortunate to have so many fantastic clubs and volunteers who help us strive towards providing better and more footballing opportunities for player of all ages.

“We know how much work goes into football on a weekly basis and The FA Community Awards supported by McDonald’s allow us to say thank you to those who dedicate so much time to the game across Sussex.

McDonald’s has been a Community Partner with The FA for fifteen years, during which time thousands of clubs have benefitted from the partnership. During this year of the partnership, McDonalds will donate their 250,000th kit to an accredited club across the UK.
